There is a beautiful TV commercial running right now. It talks about a $6 haircut store opening across from an established barber shop. Instead of rolling over and giving up, the established barber hung up a banner saying, "We Fix $6 Haircuts." The ad continues that a few months later the cheap haircut store was out of business.
As the owner of an established website design business I can relate to this commercial. Few businesses are as cutthroat as web development. There are two reasons for this. First, there is an entire group of people who think because they own a computer they can develop websites and then they offer their services for free or a couple hundred dollars. Second, since the internet is still a relatively new market, the average business owner is not aware of what a properly designed and developed website can do for them. The average person calling our office asks for a couple page website that simply shows what they offer. I have to agree with them. A website like that may only be worth a couple hundred dollars in labor, but is usually worthless as a marketing tool.
As the public becomes more internet savvy they expect more from the websites they visit. Competition on the web is fierce. Every website needs to be able to convince the consumer to do business with the respective business or the website viewer will simply move on. Today, websites that "work" are not cheap to develop. Websites that "work" take many hours to build.
But getting back to the TV commercial. Like the established barber, Wiregrass Advertising has continued to grow and be stronger every year we have been in business because we never offered a cheap website. We have watched many competitors come and go who have offered cheap website design. And the emphasis is on "go." Why is the competition gone? Because the cheap websites did not WORK for the business owner and the cheap web designer was unable to stay in business. And like the established barber, let me hang my banner that says, "WE FIX CHEAP WEBSITES!"
Wednesday, January 20, 2010 is Wiregrass Advertising's sixth birthday in Enterprise, Alabama! Although our founder (now Corporate President, Tim Alexander) had been designing websites since the mid 1990's, our very first website after opening in Enterprise was built for Faith Independent Baptist Church (www.faithibc.com). Next we built some automotive sites and an air freshener website. Our first e-commerce website was built for ME Products and Gifts (www.meproductsandgifts.com) in Daleville, Alabama.
From those humble beginnings we have grown to over 200 clients in about 14 states plus two other countries. Currently we are growing at the rate of one new web design client per week! But what is really nice is that, except for a couple that have gone out of business for one reason or another, the clients from our first year are still our clients today. Not a single first year client has switched to another web designer!
With that said, Wiregrass Advertising realizes that our corporation is comprised of our clients. Without them we could not exist. It is the clients that have allowed us to grow, expand and become what we are today: the largest company offering our range of services in the southeast! We're proud to call south Alabama home. Providing web design in Dothan, Ozark, Daleville, Enterprise, Geneva and all the communities in between has been great for us. We say, "Thank you" and please join us in singing "Happy Birthday."
When Steve Strickland came by a couple of weeks ago he was concerned with the future economy and wanted to position his company to further hedge against a local downturn in new home starts. Initially he wanted a simple site that told a little bit about his company. Instead, Steve chose a website that showcases each home he has available for sale as well as previous homes. We installed a full real estate listing program allowing Steve to upload photos and list his homes just like the MLS. He also has a photo gallery he can add pictures to so his site can be kept up to date at all times. One of the neat things about his site is that the inventory program is completely search engine friendly so individual homes can show up in search engine searches!

When Wiregrass Advertising, Inc. opened for business many years ago we decided against the one-size-fits-all website design approach of "X" number of pages for "X" number of dollars. Most designers use this faulty internet marketing tactic to gain customers.
As an internet marketing company, we know this business model usually leaves the customer with a website that cannot grow with their company and does not WORK for the customer and loses many potential sales. As a result, we do not have "customers." We have "Clients."
The web is full of opportunities for companies to present their services and products in the best light possible. Therefore we custom design every website and create them with components that match the exact needs of our clients.
Let me give you an example. Last summer we had a client call to obtain pricing. They had all but decided to use a "cheap" design company who was providing them with a specific number of pages and allowing them to select the template design they liked best. After discussing the client's business goals and ideas I quickly realized the brochure website they were planning on having built was not going to generate the revenue they wanted. Instead, we installed a custom program that allowed their customers to immediately obtain information that would otherwise have been delayed.
Roughly, our price was two times more expensive than the cheap web design company. However, prior to our developing their website, our client had anticipated hiring an employee to keep up with the increased workload generated from the website. By creating and installing this specialized program, we were able to decrease the daily workload and now the company does not need the extra employee. This has provided them with significant and real monetary savings far exceeding the cost of their website for many years to come.
That is why we do not place pricing on our website. A one-price-fits-all approach does not work for us or our clients. Our goal is to provide a website that WORKS for our clients and generates real income. It is not the "pages" that matter. It is what those pages "DO" that matter.
Contact us today and we'll be glad to discuss your specific needs and provide a website that is developed based on those needs that is also fairly priced.
There are many areas of expertise in the classification of website design and development. The majority of website designers are in business to simply throw up a website with "X" number of pages, charge a monthly fee for eternity and move on to the next customer. This type of website design usually leaves the customer with a pretty brochure that does not get them business. I recently met with a potential client who told me that his company currently has six websites online geared toward different keywords. We did a Google search and three of their websites showed up as listings one, two and three on the first page. My question was, "How many contacts do you receive on a monthly basis from these sites?" The answers was only one or two. My reply, "Then your websites are not working for you."
The difference between a marketing company designing a website and a website designer creating a pretty brochure is the ability of the website to generate business for your company. Wiregrass Advertising, Inc. is an internet marketing company. We build websites that WORK for you.
