In over ten years of designing websites I have noticed something. Web designers come and web designers go. When I was a younger web developer and trying to establish the business I used to fret over "new" designers moving into MY area and competing with me. Since opening the website design and internet marketing business in Enterprise, Alabama I have watched many businesses open and just as many close. Most of the time they left their customers in a bind and inevitably we end up increasing our client base through it.
Recently I noticed two more web design "companies" have opened in Dothan, Alabama. Whenever I see that I always wonder how long they will be here.
Stability of a design firm is extremely important in this business. The internet is much more than a mass of brochures pasted on computer screens. The internet has developed into the leading way for people to obtain information, both good and bad. First impressions of your business or organization are created when a website is viewed. If your designer has decided to close up shop and your website has been out of date for a year, most people will not get a very good impression of your business.
I suppose the moral of the story is to take the time to find an established website designer with a good reputation as well as good references. The reputation of your business resides in the hands of your designer!
